THE BLOODHOUND PROJECT, SUPPORTED BY JAGUAR

In September 2015 Bloodhound Supersonic Car will travel to South Africa’s Northern Cape to break the current 763mph World Land Speed Record. Bloodhound will then return to the desert during 2016 to target 1000mph.

Jaguar has been both Bloodhound’s Main Partner and Innovation Partner since November 2014, putting us right at the heart of this groundbreaking adventure. We’re integrating a 5.0 litre V8 550 Supercharged engine to pump oxidizer to the rocket. We’re also providing specially modified Rapid Response Vehicles that will chase Bloodhound SSC down the desert track at high speed, carrying essential safety equipment and support personnel. Jaguar has provided Rapid Response Vehicles for the previous two World Land Speed Records, Thrust 2 in 1983 and Thrust SSC in 1997, so The BLOODHOUND team can count on expert support.

The Bloodhound project has three aims: the first is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in the most exciting, accessible way possible. Jaguar F1 in Schools is part of this global mission. Second: to generate and share a raft of new research. Going supersonic is number three on the list! Look at Bloodhound and see the inspiration for Jaguar’s future.

USING BLOODHOUND TO INSPIRE YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Since 2000 Jaguar has been supporting engineering education through our ‘F1 in Schools’ programme. Why? Because the shortage of engineers in the UK means we need more young people to study the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) and then choose this career path. Now we’ve incorporated the fascinating story of Bloodhound into our education programme. After all, what could be more inspirational than developing the world’s first 1000mph car?
